Lancer season ends too early in tough semi final loss
The promising season of the 2009 Lancers came to an all-too-early end today as they lost a tough game to an excellent Keene team. Jake Finnegan has established himself as a bonafied ace with a very strong performance today, only giving up two earned runs in five innings. Kasey Carollo came in to slam the door shut on a very good Keene offense shutting them down with the bases loaded and not allowing any to score. The pitching and defense were there today, but the offense came up a bit short.
The Lancers only managed 4 hits against Keene today, none after the second. It is a testament to our pitching and defense that it came down to the last batter. In the bottom of the seventh the Lancers loaded the bases with nobody out. With the heart of the order coming up the Lancers looked to at least tie the score. Unfortunately, things don't always go as they should- which is something that makes baseball so great and so frustrating. While we put serious thought into the decision of "to bunt or not to bunt" we decided to trust our boys as they have come through all year. The hitters coming up were hitting over .450 and had close to 50 rbi's between them, were both left-handed, contact hitters, and the Keene coaches were not going to give anything close to the plate for a decent bunt. It didn't work out as we hoped and the Lancers fell.
I would like to say that this season was an amazing season and nobody in the Lancer dugout should feel anything but pride in what the team accomplised this year. We set a school record for wins by going 19-3 and we have numerous players moving on to play college ball! We will miss the seniors that were pivital this year, but on the bright side I don't see any other teams with the pitching depth that the Lancers will bring to the field next season. If there can be any positive taken out of today's loss it is this: remember this feeling gentlemen, we will have another shot next year! Next pitch.
Three Lancers have selected the colleges that they will play for after their upcoming senior year. All three were highly sought-after prospects and made their decisions after careful consideration of numerous factors. Dan Lagasse will be playing for St. Anslem's, a good fit for Dan both on the field and off! Jake Finnegan and Geoff Fisher will be taking the mound in the future for UMass-Lowell! All three boys have put in the work needed to make themself seen, and it has paid off!

Michelle Hart-Miller Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist at Londonderry High School will be holding her annual Lancer Power Camp this summer. The camp is open to all athletes 8th grade and up interested in improving Strength, Speed, Agility, Quickness, and Power. This program is designed to specifically improve athleticism and reduce injuries. Three programs are available. For more information please visit Lancerpower.com.
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Michelle and her staff for everything that they do for the baseball program. Without their dedication and efforts we would not have the success that we have year after year. I have been told numerous times from former athletes how they are ahead of other in-coming athletes in college because they already know how to do the exercises used at the next level. Michelle understands being an athlete is more than how much you can bench press, I believe the sooner you expose your athlete to her philosophies the sooner you set them up for future successes.
The summer camp dates are set! The full camp will be June 29th, 30th, and July 1st and 2nd. We will be getting flyers out in the coming months and are pleased to add long-time coach John Vaughn to help out with the camps. He is excellent with kids and has many years experience running the Lancer softball camp! These camps are a great way to have your child (boy or girl) get solid baseball instruction while having fun doing it! For 4-5 hours a day the camp reinforces the basic fundamentals taught by their regular teams!
The second camp, Lancer Baseball Pitching and catching camp, will be tentatively set for July 7th and 8th with a possible third day depending on interest.
Three Lancers select colleges to continue baseball after high school!
This is a great accomplishment for these boys and for the LHS program! One that the coaches take special pride in, "a feather in the cap" so to speak!
I hope the message is sent out to the younger players at LHS that it is possible to play college ball, but it is hard work to get there. Hard work in the classroom, the weightroom, and on the field! It doesn't just happen because you were an all-star as a ten year old, it happens through hard work and cooperation between coaches, players, and parents.
I expect to be updating this message in the next few weeks with news of another LHS player selecting a college! The more the merrier! Congratulations to all three boys and their families!
